After winning the Western Australian Community Group Award in 2015 the BBG was then pitted against the winners from the other states and territories and was ultimately judged as the best in the country.

“I felt extremely proud to be standing on the stage at the National Landcare Awards representing the Blackwood Basin Group as the Fairfax Media Community Group Winner.” Said BBG Chairman Per Christensen who travelled to Melbourne to accept the award. (pictured above)

The award is recognition of many years of hard work and dedication shown by the group’s employees and community volunteers over the past 25 years.  It also recognises the innovated work being undertaken under the Priority Bittern and Waterbird Diversity Enhancement Project where the group has been working to convert historical mining pits to habitat for threatened wetland birds near Greenbushes.

The Western Australian Landcare Community was well represented at the awards with 5 of the 9 awards coming to the west including the Landcare Facilitator, Young Landcare Leader and Innovation in Sustainable Farm Practises Awards all going to individuals and organisations within the Blackwood River Basin.
