A core component of the Waterbird Project is a comprehensive weed and pest control program to ensure that the integrity of the rehabilitated habitat is maintained.

As part of the control program, weed and pest surveys and management plans have been developed and are now being implemented. Feral animals being actively controlled on the site include foxes, feral pigs, feral cats and rabbits using a variety of baiting and trapping methods. Motion sensor cameras have also been utilised to monitor the presence of pests and to guage their impact.
