The BBG’s Protecting, Restoring & Regenerating the Blackwood River project is funded by the State NRM Program.
This project aims to protect the iconic Blackwood River against salinity and erosion problems linked to farming and agricultural practices, and builds on decades of landholder and community awareness of landcare and improved land management practices for river restoration.
This project will provide funding for 3 priority locations to fence nearly 6km of the fragile Blackwood River, to exclude affected areas from stock, and revegetate over 10ha with appropriate native species in a collaborative approach to restore water quality and riparian zones. With one landholder committing to the complete control of stock from the Blackwood, by also applying for a stock trough and stock creek crossing, as a solid alternative to removing stock access to the Blackwood River.
